Isla Mujeres
is the Island off the Yucatan Peninsula that blends
the soul of Mexico with the beaches of the Carribean.
30 minutes from downtown Cancun, Isla Mujeres is located
northeast of Quantana Roo. The island is four and a
half miles long and one half mile wide. It has a rich
history and culture of the Ancient Mayas and offers
plentiful activities. The location of the Caribbean
Island made it an ideal vacation destination for Domestic
and Foreign travelers.
Marinas can
accommodate boats up to 65 feet long. There are two
international sailing Regattas, a turtle farm and the
Dolphin Discovery for families. Many restaurants feature
succulent international cuisine where Lobster and Fish
are the norm. Music and dancing enhance the night life
scene. The population of Isla Mujeres is 13,000. Common
services include Hospitals, Clinics, Fire Department,
Red Cross, Banking, Coast Guard and more.
The island is
accessible via private planes. The majority of visitors
come by boat from Porta Grande or by ferry from Punta
Sam which is located on the north side of Cancun. The
boats typically run every 30 minutes and take 20 minutes
to reach the island. The ferry runs every hour and takes
about 40 minutes. Most boats let visitors off at the
main dock. 600,000 tourists frequent the island annually.
While most are day trips, many choose to return to the
island to take longer vacations on future trips.
One of the best
assets of the island is the sandy white beaches, with
turquoise blue water that makes the sky look pale, located
on the northern tip called Playa Norte. Guests can enjoy
a variety of water sports from paddleboats to jet skiing.
Restaurants serve up refreshing drinks and reasonable
priced meals to guests.
